The cardinality has already been addressed in other trackers, however the terminology and binding still need to be addressed.

      • The data type will be updated from Coding to CodeableConcept.
      • The binding will be relaxed to example.
      • The existing CodeSystem will be reduced to remove the IHE values.
      • A new narrative section will be added that will reference the IHE connection types.

A new "Notes" section will be added after the constraints that indicates that IHE has a profile on Endpoint that includes the connection types previously supported in R4.

    Description

Note: This ticket is related to FHIR-12342, enhancing Endpoint to support IHE SOAP web service profiles.

The HL7 codes for Endpoint.connectionType like "ihe-xca" are not detailed enough to describe endpoints that support IHE SOAP web services profiles. In response, IHE has started work on its own code system.

If there is a need for connectionType to include these more general HL7 codes, then we request the type be changed to CodeableConcept so we can include the more detailed IHE code.

If there is not such a need, an alternate solution would be to relax the binding strength from Extensible to Preferred.
