Description
This text is not as infomrative as it should be to support proper use of the specific statuses.
Amended Laboratory Report
- A laboratory report, after being released as “final”, is modified (edited or added to).
- the report is complete and verified by an authorized person
In this case:
- The report status should be set to “amended”, “corrected” or “appended”, depending on the situation.

Updated Laboratory Report
- A laboratory report, after being released as “final”, is modified (edited or added to).
- the report is complete and verified by an authorized person
In this case:
- The report status used will indicate what modificatins have occurred:
- Status set to “amended” when changes were made to patient demographics or other parts of the report, that don't affect the result value (with units, if applicable) or result interpretation
- Status set to “corrected” when changes are made to the the result value (with units, if applicable) or result interpretation
- Status set to “appended” when new results or interpretations are being added
I realize that we still have some work to do on the underlying concepts in the DiagnosticReport status codes:
https://jira.hl7.org/browse/FHIR-32986 - adding a code of modified to indicate when changes have been made to previously published patial or preliminary reports
https://jira.hl7.org/browse/FHIR-41241 - coordination between status codes used in DocumentReference and Composition, though it seems that some coordination has already occurred: https://jira.hl7.org/browse/FHIR-37403
https://jira.hl7.org/browse/FHIR-33042 - definitions for amended and corrected in this ticket
