A consistent method of exchanging this information using FHIR resources is needed due to the current HL7v3 standard being withdrawn and unable to support more modern functionality such as tag auxiliary functions. Using FHIR will provide a more modern and capable method of communicating real time location data that can replace the old standard as well as add support for new workflows.

    Description

This project will create anĀ IG that will support all workflows currently defined in the HL7v3 RTLS implementation guide including tag location updates, tag assignment/unassignment, and tag co-location alerts for patients, providers, and devices. Additionally, it will add functionality to support the addition/removal of tags from circulation, tag auxiliary functions (e.g. button presses), and tag health (e.g. battery life).

RTLS systems provide data in real time about where patients, staff, devices, etc. are located within a hospital or other healthcare facility. This data is exchanged with a hospital EHR system and used to automate patient/provider/device assignment workflows to ensure that patients are regularly monitored and improve patient care overall.
