Even though the issues that are addressed in the Gender Harmony project may not directly concern some individuals, the inclusive approach defined in this project affects many individuals and is important data that must be exchanged consistently no matter what values are assigned. While this element is not required, proper communication with patients using acceptable pronouns is part of this process.

    Description

      1. Seems like this formulation rests on the short side of the 80%/20% rule - particularly as we might consider the sensibilities of most nations and peoples. Maybe it should be offered as specific to particular realms or interest groups.
      2. Seems like HL7 should take care not to instantiate personal preferences (e.g., pronouns) that carry no clinical significance or consequence - except where the consequence (and potential penalty) could be applied to those who might consciously (/knowingly) or unconsciously (/unknowingly) fail to apply those preferences in every case. For example, "we require (/mandate) that you (the provider/clinician) use only preferred pronouns in verbal and written statements, notes and communications with and about the patient - under penalty of ...".
