    • US Core Average Blood Pressure Profile
    • Hide

It is clear from the definition of LOINC 96607-7 that the mean systolic and mean diastolic blood pressure is the Arithmetic mean ( vs a Geometric or Harmonic Mean) and synonymous with the average; in other words, the sum divided by the count.

Average (mean) Blood Pressure (systolic and diastolic) is the average of two or more blood pressure (BP) readings in a specified time period or according to a specified algorithm or protocol....

Average is used in the narrative since it is the commonly understood term and used by USCDI

      RE:

Please clarify that any one of these different interpretations of the word average satisfy the requirement.

      Decision:

Will clarify that this profile is protocol agnostic.

    Description

It's unclear how a developer should calculate the "average" blood pressure.

The US Core profile cites “24-hour ambulatory measurement” but only as an example. Is this one of many definitions of average that I need to support to be compliant?

Looking at the mandated LOINC code (96607-7) suggests three different patterns, and uses the word mean, which, of course is a more precise meaning than the ambiguous term "average"  (e.g. mean vs median and even arithmetic mode!).

The USCDIv4 examples add a few more – to 3-day morning and evening home monitoring, clinical encounter repeat average, and 24-hour ambulatory measurement.

Please clarify that any one of these different interpretations of the word average satisfy the requirement.
