The usage of a less constrained binding strength would not allow the discrimination of the slice.

The flexibility is assured by the fact that the slice is open, then also other coded concepts can be used for the category

    Description

Data element: DiagnosticReport.category.specialty (Required binding to ValueSet „Laboratory Specialty")

In Germany different approaches for classifying “Specialty” exist. A required binding to “Laboratory Specialties” which are not harmonized across Europe would lead to mappings that might be inaccurate and could cause misunderstanding.

We propose to reduce the binding strength of this ValueSet from “required” to “example” binding.
