The usage of a less constrained binding strength would not allow the discrimination of the slice.

The flexibility is assured by the fact that the slice is open, then also other coded concepts can be used for the studyType

    Description

Data element: DiagnosticReport.category.studyType (Required binding to ValueSet „Laboratory Study Types“)

In Germany different approaches for classifying “Study Types” exist, the allocation of individual tests to study types may vary between laboratories.

A required binding to study Types, which are not harmonized across laboratories and across Europe would lead to mappings that might be inaccurate and could cause misunderstanding.

In addition some values are not well defined and thus may be used ambiguously: e.g. laboratory studies or toxicology.

We propose to reduce the binding strength of this ValueSet from “required” to “example” binding.
