Description
This text in Partial Laboratory Report
- In some cases, a laboratory might release a laboratory report which is either incomplete (not all results are available or marked as “final”) or unverified.
- This usually occurs when some of the results are known to be produced later, but others need to be communicated to report recipients due to specific organizational and/or process rules; or because of the urgency of some results. Note: the ‘delay’ in the results availability may be due to the nature of the test, or to organizational or technical reasons.
In such cases:
- the report status should be set to “preliminary” or “partial”.
is confusing some laboratory concepts and is also conflating two distinct statuses:
#1 unverified results are NOT NORMALLY reported outside the organization - so unless this is a laboratory report internal to a laboratory this status should not be used on observations in a reelased report - I believe you meant preliminary results instead.
#2 partial results are some, but not all results are available - this sceanrio is correclty described as:
- In some cases, a laboratory might release a laboratory report which is incomplete (not all results are available or marked as “final”).

In such cases:
- the report status should be set to “partial”.
#3 Preliminary reports:
- In some cases, a laboratory might release a laboratory report which has verified results that are known to change over time.
- This usually occurs for specifi methods that require a long performanceperiod, like cultures of slow growing organisms, but intermediate verified results need to be communicated to report recipients due to specific organizational and/or process rules (e.g. culture and susceptibility testing for mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB))
In such cases:
- The report status should be set to “preliminary”.
