Agreed, deprecate the cqf-relativeDateTime extension, and define a new extension with the new RelativeTime type:

relative-time RelativeTime Allows for a relative time to be defined for the element on which it appears. The relative time is calculated as described in the RelativeTime data type based on the referenced context and offset.
