Description
I wanted to raise a couple questions to this community around the Marital Status value set - and specifically when a concept is defined in the HL7 Terminology but not in the VRDR FHIR IG.
Context:
According to current IJE Mortality File Layout, the value set for Marital Status includes:
M = Married
A = Married but Separated
W = Widowed
D = Divorced
S = Never Married
U = Not Classifiable
These concepts are represented in the VRDR FHIR IG as:
D = Divorced
L = Legally Separated
M = Married
S = Never Married
W = Widowed
UNK = unknown
In the HL7 Terminology, there is a higher level of specificity. For example, Domestic Partner is defined as T.
I'm wondering -
• Do other jurisdictions use Domestic Partner and/or expect to see it included in the VRDR FHIR IG?
• NCHS team - could you help me understand why the VRDR FHIR IG limits values that are already defined in the HL7 Terminology?
I'm not sure if this topic has already been raised or addressed. Would love to hear some thoughts about this.
