We will create 2 simple DocumentReference profiles for the MDI IG:

A profile derived from the US Core Document Reference Profile for MDI clinical reports such as Autopsy report (LOINC 18743-5) and Laboratory report (LOINC 11502-2).

A profile derived from the base DocumentReference for MDI investigative (i.e., non-clinical) reports.

We submit a Variance Request to the Cross-Projects Work Group for #2.

Description

MDI stakeholders receive final forensic toxicology reports, autopsy reports, etc. as formatted PDFs, which are useful as submissions in legal proceedings. Likewise, MDI case management systems produce formatted PDF investigator’s reports for similar uses.

Stakeholders have requested a FHIR mechanism to enable exchange of these formatted PDFs (separate from their structured data content).
