    Description

This is for the request for feedback on the Medications to MedicationRequest:

Since US Core only has the options of Medication, MedicationRequest and MedicationDispense, so this is the most appropriate option.

The better option would be MedicationAdministration for those medications administered as part of the procedure and those administered by a healthcare personnel in the healthcare setting. MedicationStatement is intended for situations where the information is provided by the patient and/or family.

It would be beneficial for US Core to add MedicationAdministration because MedicationRequest reflects medications ordered whether or not they have been administered. The note in the Zulip chat says that this is difficult to implement, however, whether or not the medication has been administered is a very important difference.

The examples on the C-CDA on FHIR Medication Activity substanceAdministration are such that the medications would likely have been "administered".
