Description
There is a need to support a concept of an imprecise date for resources like: condition, adverseEvent, medicationStatement, and Procedure, to name a few. The condition resource appears to support this for onset (as noted in comments in R5 Ballot) by using the onsetPeriod rather than the onsetDateTime. However, I don't see the same concept represented for date in adverseEvent, effectivePeriod in medicationStatement, or performedPeriod in Procedure.
Our current use cases involve assembling a consolidated medical record from multiple sources where an annotator may construct inclusive date ranges, or a first or last mention date, amongst the sources where the resource is mentioned. I can also see use cases even a patient reported or caregiver reported date would be a range with uncertainty. It makes sense to be able to evaluate the resource and its degree of certainty with regards to when it was effective.
We’d like to propose specific extensions to these resource elements or an extension that can be used in any date[x] element that is a Period type named ‘possible period’ or ‘uncertainty period’.
