Description
Current Text: These questions are not considered the same as “Ask at Order Entry” (AOE) questions by lab standards experts because:
- there may not be an order
- the answers to the questions do not affect the interpretation of the postive or negative result
- it was determined that for public health departments’ receiving and storing data, it is best to be consistent and represent this information with the supportingInformation FHIR Extension.
I like that you are pointing out that these are NOT like AOEs, but I think we should split out why they are not AOEs from why we are currently representing them this way.

These questions are not considered the same as “Ask at Order Entry” (AOE) questions by lab standards experts because:
- the answers to the questions do not affect the interpretation of the postive or negative result
- they are there to support Public Health response
This solution was chosen during the pandemic as that is a supported way for laboratories to add information to their LIS and then subsequently send it out. There was a lot of discussion and long-term this information should be coming from other systems to PH, so the lab does not need to store information just for the sake of forwarding it. For this At-Home Test use case that might be an option, so for this use case it may remain the solution (or it may need to be revisted).
