We will update the paragraph as suggested (removing first parenthetical, adjusting the second parenthetical).

We have decided, based on other issues, not to have explicit guidance on how to change original requests because it does seem payer-specific in what can be changed and what requires a new request.

    Description

Regarding the following sentence "Also, in situations where a request is 'pended', there may occasionally be needs to update the authorization request. This might involve the provider cancelling it (because the service is no longer needed/relevant) or adjusting the description of the procedure for which authorization is requested (e.g. minor change to a procedure code, changing the timeframe or required number of repetitions based on new clinical information)."

Does the guide address how to change original requests? If not, it needs to. Can the payer request additional information if there is a change in procedure code or rendering provider?

Further, suggest removing the first parenthetical. Saying no longer needed/relevant is not the best representation of why I provider might cancel, what about a patient paying out of pocket because they could not wait for the pend to be resolved in their favor? The second parenthetical is fine, but suggest editing to "e.g. minor change to a procedure, update to the timeframe or dosage based on new clinical information"
