    Description

In electronic and paper Patient EOBs there is a column for 'Description of Services" or "Provided Service". This column contains a Payer generated description of what the line 'payment' was for.

In the EOBs reviewed the descriptions appeared as "Consult", "Lab Tests", "Prescription Drugs", "Over the Counter Medications", "Physician Visits". There does not appear to be a common value set, each was different by payer.

The existing AEOB does NOT contain a string value at the Claim.item level that would allow for a payer generated description of the service provided.
