The use of Snomed terminology for Specimen.type is amenable. However, all descendants of Specimen (specimen) is broad.  In an effort to mirror NAACCRv5, this v2 table is the best match. However, the need for a more robust terminology valueset in Snomed is critical future work.

This IG will continue to use v2-0487 as an example binding for this current version of this IG. However, the concepts in this valueset as represented in Snomed are the desired preferred binding for this Specimen.type. Once this Snomed subset ValueSet exists, it should be incorporated into this profile location at that time.

    Description

I propose to use SCT specimen hierarchy terms (123038009 | Specimen (specimen)  and its descendants - in US edition) as preferred binding in the US version of this profile rather than V2 table terms, which are not as well defined and are missing several important types as we found out when compiling the specimen crossmapping table.
