SD discussed this during the May WGM. We agree with the suggestion. We discovered a few things during this discussion, and will make the following changes:

We will remove "Note that since this is a search operation, the document bundle is wrapped inside the search bundle." from the $document operation description.

We will add an output parameter to the $document operation that specifies:

use: OUT

name: return

cardinality: 1..1

$document operation does not have an output parameter in its definition.

Section 2.42.13.1 states that

The server ... either returns a full document bundle, or returns an error

Suggest: Add one output parameter to the operation:
