Add statement in section 1 that this IG is focused on drug therapy ordering conducted with an inpatient or outpatient EHR. If the EHR can send medication orders present in the NCPDP e-prescribing medication history for outpatient drugs as FHIR resources to the CDS service then, these resources could be included in CDS logic.

    Description

Global query: perhaps this is obvious to the HL7 community, but it would be helpful if the scope of this document related to inpatient drug orders vs. outpatient (retail) prescription drugs was clarified. The terminology used throughout about “orders” suggests inpatient (or at least drugs administered in practice setting). What is the relationship to NCPDP SCRIPT e-prescribing modules, which have their own drug interaction functionality built in? Does the CDS described in this guide survey both the NCPDP e-prescribing medication history for outpatient drugs AND the inpatient list of ordered medications? It would be helpful to clarify these distinctions and explain the interplay between orders/prescription and inpatient/outpatient.
