The mission of CPI is actually “to detect and combat fraud, waste and abuse of the Medicare and Medicaid programs…by making sure CMS is paying the right provider the right amount for services covered under our programs.” This frames this as CPI is helping physicians, however it needs to be reworded to say role is to ensure Medicare is paying for medically necessary services.
