Because may be multiple roles here (manufacture, MAH, distributer, relabeler), we don't want to be too specific in defining this data element in the base resource. If a use case requires a particular role, it can be better described in an IG. And if it is critical to include the MAH, that can be accomplished by specifying a Medication in Immunization.administeredProduct.

Description

within the medication and immunization resources there is a data element for "manufacturer".

the issue i have right now is with the immunization resource. the definition for the "manufacturer" data element - is the Vaccine manufacturer.

This should be replaced by the Market Authorization Holder (MAH). the MAH is the legal organization representing the manufacturer who has been granted authority to market their drug in CA. the MAH is VERY often confused with the Manufacturer since most times they are one in the same.

the MAH is what is listed on the drug label NOT the manufacturer.

This applies to ALL medicinal products AND is consistent with IDMP.
