A new AdminsteredProduct data element will be added as a CodeableReference (Medication). Additional narrative explaining the use of the new element will be added. The changes will be aligned with Option 1 in the attached file. A note to balloters will be added explaining the additional option and asking for feedback on the preferred approach.

Per recent discussions, the product can be already identified in an immunization - we could use code translations, having one code to represent the vaccine and the other the actual product if known.

However, this does not keep data together (lot number, expiry belong with the product and are relevant for inventory and tracing purposes, unlike the vaccine code which is relevant clinically/epidemiologically ). Besides, it does not allow linking by reference to an existing medication (for example if we need to keep consistent catalogs of products including medication and vaccines).

Suggestion: add an optional element next to Immunization.code

      • Immunization.administeredProduct
        • product - CodeableReference to Medication
        • lot
        • expiry
        • (do we want to add Serial number)

and remove Lot and expiry because they are attributes of the Product, not of the immunization
