For sampled data that represents waveforms from medical devices a possibility is needed that allows to annotate specific samples of the sampled data.

Example 1: The Observation captures a snippet of a waveform from an ECG. The waveform has information about a pacemaker beat. It is important to display the exact position of the beat in the waveform for clinical interpretation.

Example 2: The Observation captures a snippet of a waveform from a Ventilator. The waveform has information about the start and end of breathing cycle.

One possibility to provide a means would be to extend the Observation.component with a possibility to indicate the sample(s) that this component observation applies. The Observation.component.code would indicate that this is an annotation, the Observation.component.valueSampledData would include the kind of the annotation (e.g. Pacer beat, Insp. Start).
