Proposed motion to keep the following fields separate and add to their comments (unless it contradicts in which case it would replace): deviceIdentifier - This identifier is used in context of UDI and does not identify a single Device, thus is not part of .identifier distinctIdentifier - While it identifies the specific cell, tissue, organ that this device is based on, that does not always mean that it uniquely identifies the device, thus cannot be part of .identifier modelNumber - While this sounds like an identifier, it does not uniquely identify a Device. partNumber - While this sounds like an identifier, it does not uniquely identify a Device (a "whole" device or a part of a device). serialNumber - The serial number assigned by the organization when the device was manufactured.  This number uniquely identifies a device. Update the comment of Device.identifier and replace it with: Certain attributes, like serial number and UDI Carrier (the HRF or AIDC barcode string) are not device instance identifiers as they are not consistently able to uniquely identify the instance of a device, thus are not appropriate to be used to value Device.identifier.
