      Proposed motion to:

      1) Rename element "source" to "informationSource", and add "Organization" as a possible target of Reference from this element. The statement may come from a hospital as opposed to a person.

      2) Rename element "recordedOn" to "dateAsserted" (dateTime) : date when the statement was made (and recorded) by informationSource.

      3) Add element "category" (codeableConcept): with this value set:

      {inpatient , outpatient, community, patientspecified}

      . The device may be an implant or an externally used device. In all cases, it is useful to indicate in which context the usage of the device is decided, and intended.

      4) rename element "indication" to "reasonCode" (codeableConcept): The reason why the device is used.

      5) add the element "reasonReference" (Reference(Condition | Observation))

      6) add the element "context" (Reference(Encounter | EpisodeOfCare) : The encounter or episode of care that establishes the context for this device use statement.

      7) replace element DeviceUseStatement.device by:

      ? device[x]

      — deviceCodeableConcept -> CodeableConcept

      — deviceReference -> Reference(Device)

      This would open the door to simple device use statements (for instance made by the patient or a related) expressing a class of device - such as "I have an implanted stent" or "using a probe" - and not mentioning further details about the device. This would also enable statements such as "no device used by this patient" or "no information available about devices used for this patient"

    Description

      The resource DeviceUseStatement has a purpose which is close to the one of MedicationStatement: Making the statement about the use of a medical device on one side, and the use of a drug on the other. These two resources should be better aligned for the data elements which qualify the statement itself. Considering maturity levels, it is DeviceUseStatement (FMM 0), which should be aligned on MedicationStatement (FMM 3).

      4) rename element "indication" to "reasonCode" (codeableConcept): The reason why the device is used.

      5) add the element "reasonReference" (Reference(Condition | Observation))

      6) add the element "context" (Reference(Encounter | EpisodeOfCare) : The encounter or episode of care that establishes the context for this device use statement.
