Will update the first guidance block in BOTH the Medication Activity and Medication Information templates as follows FROM:

Thus, a patient consuming a single "metoprolol 25mg tablet" per administration will have a doseQuantity of "1", whereas a patient consuming "metoprolol" will have a dose of "25 mg".

      TO:

Thus, a patient consuming a single "metoprolol 25mg tablet" per administration will have a doseQuantity of "1", whereas a patient consuming "metoprolol Oral Product" (RxCUI 1163523) will have a dose of "25 mg".

Will update the conformance statement in doseQuantity within the Medication Activity template as follows FROM:

If the consumable code is not pre-coordinated (e.g., is simply "metoprolol"), then doseQuantity must represent a physical quantity with @unit, e.g., "25" and "mg", specifying the amount of product given per administration (CONF:1098-16879).

      TO:

If the consumable code is not pre-coordinated (e.g., is simply "metoprolol Oral Product" (RxCUI 1163523), then doseQuantity must represent a physical quantity with @unit, e.g., "25" and "mg", specifying the amount of product given per administration (CONF:1098-16879).

    Description

The Medication Activity (V2) template says:

Thus, a patient consuming a single "metoprolol 25mg tablet" per administration will have a doseQuantity of "1", whereas a patient consuming "metoprolol" will have a dose of "25 mg".

      And:

If the consumable code is not pre-coordinated (e.g., is simply "metoprolol"), then doseQuantity must represent a physical quantity with @unit, e.g., "25" and "mg", specifying the amount of product given per administration (CONF:1098-16879).

The trouble with this is that metoprolol (RxCUI 6918) isn't actually in the Medication Clinical Drug value set, as required by the Medication Information (V2) template, and thus this guidance feels a little bit confusing. It would probably be better to make the same point with some term that actually is part of the value set, like metoprolol Oral Product (RxCUI 1163523).
