Description
Page 103-104 (re: Sexual Orientation)
Current Text:
- SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] effectiveTime ([CONF:4515-32882|conf:4515-32882]).
The effectiveTime represents the biologically relevant time of the observation. A patient's "sexual orientation" may change and using effectiveTime/low and effectiveTime/high defines the time during which the patient had identified their emotional, romantic, sexual, or affectional attraction to another person.
Comment:
Sexual Orientation was out of scope for Gender Harmony, but it is defined in USCDI V2 as "A person’s identification of their emotional, romantic, sexual, or affectional attraction to another person.
Since Sexual Orientation is self-declared by the person per the definition, how is it 'biologically' relevant? Suggest remove 'biologically' which might be misinterpreted to imply clinical relevance. A patient’s biological/chromosomal sex can impact the reference ranges on laboratory results so it is critical to have clear definitions.
