      Page 42-43 (re: Gender Identity)

      1. SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] effectiveTime ([CONF:4515-33033|conf:4515-33033]).

      The effectiveTime represents the biologically relevant time of the observation. A patient's "gender identity" may change and using effectiveTime/low and effectiveTime/high defines the time during which the patient had identified as specified.

       

      Comment:

      Since Gender Identity is self-declared by the patient per the definition, how is it 'biologically' relevant. 

      Suggest remove 'biologically' which might be misinterpreted to imply clinical relevance.

      A patient’s biological/chromosomal sex can impact the reference ranges on laboratory results so it is critical to have clear definitions and not include 'biological' when the term being defined does not impact the patient's laboratory result.

      From Gender Harmony August 2021 Informative Document:

      Gender Identity (GI) Definition: An individual's personal sense of being a man, woman, boy, girl, nonbinary, or something else. This datum represents an individual’s identity, ascertained by asking them what that identity is.

      Validity Period Definition: The time frame during which this gender identity applies to the person. May be just an initial dateTime.
