Provenance for Personal Characteristics

Demonstration how Provenance can be used for personal characteristics such as Race and Ethnicity (R/E), gender identity, sexual orientation. The targetElement extension captures the source (i.e., performer) and collection method in the following examples:

The US Core Patient Resource

In this example, the US Core Patient resource represents the personal characteristics such as Race and Ethnicity (R/E), gender identity, etc using extensions. Note the extension have individual element ids within a resource for internal and external referencing.

The US Core Provenance Resource

The US Core Provenance resource is able represent who, how and when the personal characteristics such as Race and Ethnicity (R/E), gender identity, etc was collected. Note the individual element ids within a resource are used to identify the personal characteristics elements in the Provenance resource by leveraging the Target Element Extension

These examples are draft and have not been validated

Searching for Patient and its Provenance:

As documented in US Core, Provenance can be fetched with the Patient resource using the _revinclude SearchParmeter:

GET [base]/Patient?[parameter=value]&_revinclude=Provenance:target

For example:

GET base/Patient?_id=example2&_revinclude=Provenance:target
