      Personalized Health Navigation (PHN) is the process of assisting individuals in achieving their health goals by helping them understand their health conditions and providing guidance on food, lifestyle, and healthcare choices. PHN leverages cybernetic systems technologies to enable a navigational approach to health and wellness and healthcare.

      PHN includes extensive real-time digital data collection (both health, environmental & other sources), integration, filtering, and persisting into a personal chronicle (or "Personicle") that can be used for event mining, leveraged by a personal model that also integrates additional information & knowledge sources (e.g., omics or exposome). This personal model then provides the basis for navigational guidance toward a person's goals, from training to run a marathon in 3 months to better living with chronic conditions such as diabetes.

      PHN project deliverables will include:

      1. PHN White Paper considering how this project focus can integrate and extend the work of existing groups throughout HL7;
      2. FHIR Implementation Guide(s) - Based on analysis & prioritization from the white paper and standards development / implementer community;
      3. Creation of a robust implementation community supporting PHN, including FHIR CAT tracks, open source reference implementations & pilot projects.

      Project proposal background materials were presented during the HL7 WGM in New Orleans 2023.05.11 to the Devices WG, including:

      PHN reference architecture and application areas (e.g., mental health) is the subject of a series of ISO/TC215 9472 standards under development.  As indicated in the linked presentation, this project will include close collaboration with the ISO 9472 project teams, including normative references to the requirements from those standards and technical specifications.  

      This project would provide an implementation community home within HL7 for the conceptual work being advanced in ISO/TC215/WG11. 

      NOTE:  That the Devices WG as project Sponsor is the proposed starting point, though as the project advances, starting with the development of a PHN white paper, other working groups may provide a more aligned home for the work in general.
