    Description

This project will focus on applying the concepts in the Laboratory Order Conceptual model behavioural analysis to the workflow aspects of OO FHIR ServiceRequest, NutritionOrder, Supply Request, DeviceRequest, and Task aspects with the goal of ensuring the major use cases are satisfied by the existing resources. We will review non-OO related requests such as MedicationRequest with the appropriate work groups. A primary goal is to ensure consistency across the various order domains (e.g. DME, Lab, Supply, Device, Nutrition Order, Referral, Procedure, etc.). The initial focus will be on laboratory orders and CPOE, but other order workflows will be examined. Where appropriate, existing FHIR resources may be updated and/or FHIR profiles for specific use cases may be developed. Additionally, requirements from the v2 Laboratory Order Interface (LOI) Implementation Guide and from IHE Laboratory Testing Workflow (LTW) will be assessed to inform the FHIR workflow requirements. The scope of this analysis includes the order interactions between Order Placer and Order Fulfiller, not the internal workflow within either. Existing specifications will be referenced to inform the analysis, including the Order Service Functional Model, the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) IG for post acute orders, and other emerging order related specification. If necessary, learnings from this analysis may inform the project work to update the Conceptual Model (project id 1067) and / or the Order Service Functional Model (project id 1010).

This project was originally approved Aug 4th, 2014 with a narrower scope and then put on hold until resources were available to work on it.
