Collaborative project between HL7 Devices, IHE Devices and IEEE 11073 to establish a cohesive application of HL7 FHIR and IEEE 11073 Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC) to support a broad set of device informatics use contexts and scenarios. SDC is optimized for the most challenging "medical grade" device applications including regulated alerting systems and external device control such as closed-loop algorithms and autonomous systems. Integration with HL7 FHIR covers most all the other applications that benefit from device informatics.

Work products will include both HL7 FHIR Implementation Guides and IHE FHIR-enabled profiles, along with the needed implementation and test tooling.

This project will provide more focus, visibility and formalization to on going projects in these three SDOs that is loosely coordinated (from a process and project management perspective) and that have significant, normative interrelationships. By collecting these activities under a single SDC+FHIR Device Interoperability program, limited resources will be better utilized and the work products better integrated.

The intent is to leverage collaborative tooling from all three organizations, including IHE WebEx, HL7 Confluence & JIRA, NIST test tooling, SDC open source tooling, etc.. In the latter case, Devices on FHIR is being advanced in this tooling. So the extension to an SDC+FHIR project will be very synergistic and bring significant new community participants into the HL7 space.
