The concepts for the http://terminology.hl7.org/ValueSet/recorded-sex-or-gender-type value set have been updated in FHIR-39205 including the removal of the DICOM "Patient's Sex" concept.

In relation to the value set OID (2.16.840.1.113883.11.19757), this was an error and has been corrected to (2.16.840.1.113883.4.642.3.3289) as part of the disposition for OTHER-2485.

In relation to additional concepts expected, the binding for RSG type has been changed to example (from preferred) with the expectation that implementers will use concepts that are appropriate for their needs.

    Description

http://terminology.hl7.org/ValueSet/recorded-sex-or-gender-type has an odd set of codes - biological sex, sex at birth, gender, and "Patient's Sex" from DICOM - what is that?

This value set is supposed to be 2.16.840.1.113883.11.19757, but I didn't have any luck chasing that down. So I'm not sure whether that's the same value set, or somewhere else, but the dicom value didn't bring me clarity. Can we have some text somewhere describing the intent here?

Also, concepts I expected to find here:

      • intended gender/sex (e.g. target of transition)
      • legal recognition of changed gender
      • administrative selection of gender
      • some differentiation of private/public statements, and/or social statement of standing equivalent to Samoan Fa'afafine and Fa'afatama, as opposed to personal sense
