Note to submitter:  This issue is now three separate issues: this one, FHIR-41733 and FHIR-41734. The proposed resolution is only for the non-TNM staging portion of this issue.

We agree that non-TNM staged cancers are of interest, and in earlier versions of mCODE, we had only one example and no specific profiles.

We added new profiles and value sets for common non-TNM staging including lymphoma, leukemia, prostate, gynocological, myeloma, and melanoma.

    Description

COMMENT:   Not all cancers are staged using the TNM staging, and some have specific staging mechanisms which are important to capture for research purposes. For example, many hematologic malignancies are not typically staged with the TNM schema. (i.e., many hematologic malignancies)

RECOMMENDED CHANGE:   Develop mechanism to capture standard of care staging mechanisms other than TNM when applicable.

      ----------

The following is now a separate issue: FHIR-41733:

COMMENT:   A major category of cancer therapy that appears to be omitted is stem cell transplant and other cellular therapies.

RECOMMENDED CHANGE:   Create additional major treatment subheading of 'Cellular Therapy' for stem cell transplant, Car-T, etc.

      ----------------

The following is now a separate issue: FHIR-41734:

COMMENT:  Though it may be outside the scope of the project at this point, certain social history elements such as Tobacco History, Alcohol History, Family Cancer History, and Occupation History are relevant to cancer research.

RECOMMENDED CHANGE:   Consider for inclusion in the mCODE patient bundle: Tobacco History, Alcohol History, Family Cancer History, Occupational History.
