Of the the four questions, three use the neutral term "activity" rather than "exercise":

      • "How many days per week did you engage in moderate to strenuous physical activity in the last 30 days"
      • "Frequency of moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity"
      • "Frequency of muscle-strengthening physical activity"

One uses the term "exercise", which is sometimes perceived as excluding non-recreational activity:

      • "On those days that you engage in moderate to strenuous exercise, how many minutes, on average, do you exercise"

Because these are the measures that have been validated by research and are the measures that will be referenced by USCDI, we can't really shift to other measures.  However, we will add the following language in the guide:

"NOTE: The physical activity captured by these measures is not limited to 'leisure' type activities such as jogging and swimming.  Physical activity during work (e.g. heavy lifting, manual labor), as part of travel (e.g. commuting by bicycle), or at any other portion of the individual's day qualifies so long as it meets the "muscle-strengthening" or "moderate to vigorous/strenuous" physical activity categories."

    Description

The Activity-based Measures could be difficult to answer for those who engage in physical activity at work. For example, someone might lift boxes a lot of their work day, Is that the same as "weights"? If they lift and carry, is that mixed?
