This is a rendering issue.  The type is not actually 'FHIR string', but rather 'simple type string' - i.e. a type that doesn't allow extensions or id within it.  The type constraints of the 'id' type still apply.  We have submitted an issue (github.com/HL7/kindling/issues/78) against the rendering tooling to fix this in the next release.  If we end up putting out a technical correction on R4B, this will be addressed from that fix.

    Description

In R4B, the presentation on http://hl7.org/fhir/resource.html incorrectly displays Resource.id as a 'string' type, but the underlying definition correctly defines it as an 'id' type.
