      Protective Factors: characteristics or strengths of individuals, families, communities situations or societies that act to mitigate risks and promote positive
      well-being and healthy development; attributes that help to successfully navigate difficult situations; factors that may contribute to or explain positive outcomes. 

      Example of protective factor -  trait or habit that “protects” people and makes them less likely to get a chronic disease. Protective factors can include:

      • Exercise
      • Healthy eating
      • Managing weight, blood pressure and cholesterol
      • Mental health: feeling happy, emotional support and social connections
