      Background:

This US Core Social Determinant of Health (SDOH) Guidance Page has been added in response to United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) V2 updates that the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) published by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) in July of 2021. The new data elements include:

      • SDOH Assessments
      • SDOH Goals
      • SDOH Interventions
      • SDOH Problems/Health Concerns

      and references SDOH specific terminology.

It does not define of SDOH to includes "where you live, work, and play" or conflate the content with Occupational Health.

Note that the DRAFT USCDI V3 adds the Patient Demographic Data Element:

Occupation: A self-reported term for the type of work done by a person. For a military position, this is the primary occupational specialty.

Which may appear in a future versions of US Core and alleviate the commenters concerns.

      Reasoning:

We disagree that US Core should wade into the boundaries between SDOH and ODH.

      Proposed Changes:

      1. add definition to SDOH page introduction to describe it scope (taken from USCDI)

This US Core Social Determinant of Health (SDOH) Guidance Page has been added in response to United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) V2 updates that the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) published by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) in July of 2021. SDOH data relate to conditions in which people live, learn, work, and play and their effects on health risks and outcomes.[1] The new data elements include:

      • SDOH Assessments
      • SDOH Goals
      • SDOH Interventions
      • SDOH Problems/Health Concerns

This page documents how the US Core Profile can be use to represent these elements.

      2. add a footnote to acknowledge the potential for ODH data to be added to US Core

"Future versions of US Core may add more detailed work information, such as Occupational Data for Health (ODH), if those elements are successful on the US Core Growth path (add link)."
