    Description

The National Uniform Claim Committee's (NUCC) does not maintain "Provider Role Codes." The NUCC maintains the Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set and it DOES NOT define provider roles in a patient's care. The Provider Taxonomy code set simply identifies the provider's classification and specialty. For example, a patient may have an internist, cardiologist, and endocrinologist. The Provider Taxonomy code set can be used to identify each of these physicians' specialties. The code set does not identify the role of each physician, such as who is acting in the role of the primary care provider for the patient.
