The ExplanationOfBenefit.item.location element has a choice data type so it can be either a CodeableConcept using the ExampleServicePlaceCodes value set (which is taken from the CMS Place of Service Code Set, or it can be a reference to a Location resource. The problem is if you choose to use a Location reference then there is no documented standard place to put the CMS POS code. We need that code for the quality measures use case because some measures only apply to certain specific POS codes. Can we document the proper way to reference a Location and also include a CMS POS code for that location? If we can't do that within the C4BB Explanation of Benefit profile then we might need to expand this IG with our own Location profile.
