Clarify that the purpose of the MedicationRequest in the Query message and Query Response - Unsolicited message is to relate the message to the prescription--not to serve as the prescription:

Change 7.1 Query Message, last bullet from:

      • optional MedicationRequest, Practitioner, Organization resources to represent the associated specialty prescription

          to

      • optional MedicationRequest, Practitioner, Organization resources to enable the recipient to find the specialty prescription that the Query Request message relates to

Change 7.3 Query Response - Unsolicited Message, second-to-last bullet from:

      • mandatory MedicationRequest, Practitioner, Organization resources to represent the associated specialty prescription

      to

      • mandatory MedicationRequest, Practitioner, Organization resources to enable the recipient to find the specialty prescription that the Query Response - Unsolicited message relates to

Add the following note below the identified section:

      • This message is not intended to serve as authorization to dispense the referenced MedicationRequest. Electronic prescriptions are typically transmitted in the US using the NewRx message defined in the NCPDP SCRIPT standard.

    Description

This suggests that MedicationRequest (vs. NCPDP SCRIPT) is used to submit the prescription to the pharmacy – is that correct? This suggests a different transaction be used if the prescription order is accompanied by unsolicited information. Suggest clarifying this, as information earlier in this guide suggests the SCRIPT standard is used to send electronic prescriptions for specialty medications to pharmacies.

      Existing Wording:

mandatory MedicationRequest, Practitioner, Organization resources to represent the associated specialty prescription
