      Make the following adjustments:

      1.  On the Information Flows Requiring Human Interaction page, remove "ask the clinic to clarify dosing instructions" example from narrative.

      2. On the home page, add clarification in the Scope of this Guide section:

      • The guide does not address transmission of the original prescription from the prescriber to dispensing pharmacy, which is typically accomplished in the US using the NewRx message, defined in the NCPDP SCRIPT standard.
      • Further, the exchanges described in the guide are not intended to be used to request a change to a received prescription or to propose a particular clarification; these functions are supported by the NCPDP SCRIPT RxChangeRequest and RxChangeResponse messages.

    Description

It seems that this sort of clarification could also be accomplished using the NCPDP SCRIPT RxChangeRequest transaction. The NCPDP SCRIPT guide states that the RxChangeRequest “. . . may be used to request drug use evaluation information, to clarify a prescription or request prescriber credential validation.” This HL7 guide also references early on that NCPCP SCRIPT is used to send the initial prescription to the specialty pharmacy. We suggest adding clarification/guidance as to when the Specialty Rx Query vs. the NCPDP SCRIPT RxChangeRequest be used to obtain clarification on a specialty medication prescription.
