      It seems possible for a study to not have a patient in very specific and niche workflows (e.g. a device calibration workflow), but this is quite far from our 80%+ use-case. 

      Kicking the can down the road, because this is hard, something we need to get right and would likely benefit from more real world experience.

      Related to the discussion in FHIR-25874

      When an multitab application switches to a tab that holds no patient - the current patient is none. But the other patients are not closed.

      When an topic holds different parrallel events, e.g. Patient and ImagingStudy. A patient maybe selected but no ImagingStudy - an event with an empty study field should signal this.

      When a study is opened that does not have a patient (e.g. of a device or something else), the current patient is none - an event patient-open that is empty would signal this.
