Pharmacy processes in the US typically support...

• US postal state codes
• USPS military "state" codes such as AE / Armed Forces Europe
• and Canadian postal addresses

to support patients on US health plans that are currently in the military or in Canada.

To support this in the Realtime Pharmacy Benefit Check IG, we created a [value set|http://hl7.org/fhir/us/carin-rtpbc/2020FEB/ValueSet-carin-rtpbc-state-and-province-code-value-set.html] composed of USPS state codes and Canada Post province codes. 

Brett suggested that it would makes sense to expand the US Core state code lists in a similar way.
