Description
The current logical definition for US Core Diagnostic Report Laboratory Codes contains the following Text:
The Document Type value set includes all LOINC values whose CLASSTYPE is LABORATORY in the LOINC database
Copyright Statement: This content from LOINC® is copyright © 1995 Regenstrief Institute, Inc. and the LOINC Committee, and available at no cost under the license at http://loinc.org/terms-of-use.
This value set includes codes from the following code systems:
- Include codes from http://loinc.org where CLASSTYPE = 1
Requested Change:
Please alter the logical definition to include text indicating that the value set can be built by extracting all concepts associated with LOINC Part Number: LP29693-6 | Laboratory from the multi-axial hierarchy.
Justification:
LOINC Parts and the Multi-Axial Hierarchy are implied for use in US Core Diagnostic Report Category definition (http://hl7.org/fhir/us/core/ValueSet-us-core-diagnosticreport-category.html) implying that the user must be familiar with the LOINC Multi-Axial Hierarchy file and how to associate the contents of that file with LOINC codes. If logical value set definitions need to be written for Radiology, Cariology, or Pathology, they would need to be written to extract the data based on the LOINC Part through the multi-axial hierarchy. Changing this definition would allow for consistent definitions across all the intensional value set definitions for LOINC.
Please make this change applicable to FHIR US Core STU3 and R4.
