Linkage is currently scoped to linking 2 identical items. However, there are many use cases for linking related but not identical items. 

Suggest creating a Linkage.class property with codes such as "identical  | related | ...etc." and change the binding on Linkage.item.type to recommended or extensible to allow for different types.
