By CLIA regulations, US Labs must have the Performing Laboratory, Performing Technologist , and performing laboratory Medical Director. The Performing Technologist and Medical Director are both Practitioners. Given two Practitioners in an instance of a DiagnosticReport, it is impossible to tell which role they played. We only known that one is probably the Technologist is probably the Medical Director, but not which is which.

Talking to O&O, they suggest that to overcome this problem and implement CLIA requirements in a profile, _you have to use PractitionerRole. _The PractitionerRole would give the code for the role, and then point to the practitioner fulfilling that role.

Unfortunately, US Core DiagnosticReport Lab has constrained PractitionerRole out of DiagnosticReport.performer. It appears, therefore, to be impossible to create a US Core and CLIA-compliant Diagnostic Report Laboratory Result Profile. To correct this problem and make it possible to report CLIA labs, US Core should add PractitionerRole as an option for DiagnosticReport.performer.
